Winter Tower-Klausenburg

In winter, Cluj’s old towers look almost untouched by time — the same silhouettes that once guarded the medieval gates of Klausenburg.

Snow softens everything except the stone, and for a moment the city feels like it remembers its Saxon past: merchants arriving through frozen streets, watchmen scanning the horizon for danger, and bells marking the slow, cold hours of the citadel.

Legend says that in harsh winters, the tower’s echo traveled farther than in summer, carrying news, warnings, and sometimes prayers across the rooftops of the old town.
